Let say today you are organizing a lifestyle event for your company where target audience are the general public. There are two ways for you to promote your event, it is either through offline or either through online. Today we will not talk about offline but instead we will look at how you can promote your event online.
How to Promote Your Event Through the Internet - 2 Ways
We will be looking at 2 different ways to promote your event online. The 2 different ways are1. Free Way - Social Media Marketing
2. Paid Way - Paid Advertising (Pay Per Click)
How to Promote Your Event Through the Internet - Free Way
So let us begin with the Free way. Is it really free? The answer is no, nothing in this world is Free. Although it is Free, you need to invest your time for it. You need to be 100% focus when using this method. What do we need since it is Free? We need time, we need the SOCIAL MEDIA. Social Media are platforms where people gather together, to network, socialize, share information among each other online and also not to forget to search for information. Examples of social media are like Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, LinkedIn. All the social media i have just mentioned are all free, you just need to sign up with an email.
Let us begin with Facebook
What you can do in Facebook is to create your company Facebook account, and search for Facebook groups to join in. There are plenty of Facebook Groups. You only join groups which that are related to your niche. Let's say you are organizing a public event topic on "How you can loose weight the smart way" your niche would be groups like health, loss weight group, where people in the group share their testimonies and their tips. Now you have created an a company account, and you are in the group already. What's next?
Next you contribute to the group. What do i mean by contribute to the group? Contribute to the group means, actively create discussion, providing great value and comments which are logical and feasible to the group. I recommend for everyone to start providing valuable comments or advice to the group before sharing your event to them. This help you build the rapport among members of the group. NOTE!!! Do not spam! What do i mean by SPAM?
Example of spamming in groups are
We are the best slimming center in Asia. Join Us now! www.xxx.com
What can we learn from this sentence? This sentence is merely talking about how great the company is, and does it provide any value to the group? Today talking big about your company does not work well anymore. Because it does not sound convincing and it is about my company, it did not meet the needs of the target audience or the niche. Perhaps, what should we write so that we avoid spamming?
Example of great valuable content
How to slim down without going through a diet plan? Check this out - www.xxx.com
Compare to the first sentence, which do you think people are searching for? People in the weight loss group for example will not care how great is your company, but instead they are constantly searching for an answer. People are always searching for answer. If you manage to provide solution or answers to their question, it will be more effective. So begin the day on Facebook by contributing comments, sharing out your experience before posting your event in the group.
Contributing doesn't mean agree to the discussion, you can also disagree by providing your stand and opinion, making it a constructive discussion.
Ok here's the hard work.
Let say you join 5 groups in Facebook, you spend approximately 30 minutes in a group, sharing and contributing to it, you will need 2 and a half hours on Facebook daily. This is just one channel.
Before i forget also, when you share you need to take note of the time people get on Facebook the most. So that you can reach a wide range of niche.
In Malaysia - peak hours people get online are 7am to 9am and after work 6pm to 12am.
So Facebook alone requires 2.5 hours daily. You can divide your time to 1 hour in the morning and the later of the day 1.5 hour at night.
How to Promote Your Event Through the Internet - Paid Way
Here comes the Paid Way. What do we need here? It's not time but MONEY!
Online Paid Advertising also known as search engine marketing.
SEM is short for “search engine marketing,” which once was used as an umbrella term to encompass both SEO (search engine optimization) and paid search activities. However, over time, many adopted the SEM acronym to refer solely to paid search. (search Engine Land)
SEM is the process of gaining traffic by purchasing ads on search engines. It is also called paid search and sometimes referred to as CPC (cost-per-click) or PPC (pay-per-click) marketing, because most search ads are sold on a CPC / PPC basis.Paid way are more suitable for companies who have advertising budget. You got to track what work most and what work less and monitor the campaign. Here you will see result appear more tangible than the Free way. Although you do not need much time spent on this method, you will need a sum of investment. Might not be suitable for companies who have limited budget.
