The Elevator Pitch - 3 simple steps to take home

Welcome back! I notice everyday we pitch.

Do we indeed know the correct way to pitch? Do we know how to leave a good impression after pitching?

Today we will be covering on what is elevator pitch and the 3 simple steps to take home.

Take a look at the two scenarios below.

Example -

1. You are at an event, so happen you have met the VP of the company of your dream job. You mention that you are looking for a job, and then the VP says - Nice to meet you, so tell me more about yourself. 

2. You are at the exhibition, you somehow met 1 of the CEO of your hottest prospect. He recognize you, and he goes over to ask you. Hey you look familiar, what do you do and I am curious of your business, tell me more about it. 

How do you response to the two examples above?

Will you hesitate? Will you stammer? Say you have 30 seconds to share it with the CEO you meet can you a kick ass pitch where it leaves a long lasting impression?

Take sometime and ponder the question above.

At this point of time you are in fact pitching to the CEO and the VP you met. In fact is about expressing and sharing your ideas to them in a short time.

The Elevator Pitch - 3 steps to follow

The best way to pitch is by using the elevator pitch. The elevator pitch helps you describe who you are, what you do, and what your business do for people and why you in 25 to 30 words. You do not want to pitch too long and make them feel boring. In fact you want to make them say : Tell me more about it. What is it all about? The elevator pitch is a persuasive pitch that captures the hard of your prospect making them curious and wanting to know more.

After knowing what is the elevator pitch, now let us look at how you can build the elevator by following the 3 simple steps below.

The 3 simple steps are -

  1. The 5Ws
  2. Rinse and Repeat
  3. Know your audience

The Elevator Pitch - #1 - The 5Ws. 

First step is to answer the 5Ws below 
  1. Who are you?
  2. What do you do?
  3. What's In it for them? 
  4. Who are you targeting?
  5. Why you?
By answering the following question you will be able to generate a simple elevator message.

Eg - Perk Idea is an event company that provides event management services to corporate companies who needs help in event planning and event management. Perk Idea turn ideas into execution making it a memorable event (34 words)

Next is to polish it again and again. 


The Elevator Pitch - #2 - Rinse and Repeat

Edit, rehearse, practice making sure your elevator pitch consist of 35 words and below and sounds convincing. Why is it so important to rinse and repeat? Practice makes perfect. Repeat again and again to make your elevator pitch better.

The Elevator Pitch - #3 - Know your audience

What do we meant by knowing your audience? Writing your pitch according to your audience language. Sometimes our audience we meet do not know about technical term.

For example if you are pitching for technical services like SEO (search engine optimization) 

If you use terms like - SEO, On Page Optimization, Off Page Optimization they might not understand. 

Example:
ClickPro Media helps rank companies website on Google and Yahoo helping them to attract traffic to their website. 

So hope this helps by following the 3 steps - THE 5Ws, Rinse and Repeat and Know Your Audience. 

So practice practice and practice. The key to success in pitch is about polishing your pitch practice speaking to your audience and improving it better.
